We are going to tour a preschool in the next couple weeks for Raymond.

What are some questions I should ask them?

Do they follow a curriculum (sp?)?  If so, how intense is it?  (Personally, we prefer a heavy emphasis on learning through structured play instead of table work, etc, but that is just our preference).

Do they require potty training?

Do they provide lunch?  Snacks?

what is a typical day like?

What are the safety precautions (you can usually see this.  Can people just walk right in?  Is there more than one gate to an outdoor play area?  Is this staffed?)

Is there outside play time?

Do they have teacher conferences?  How often?

Great questions! I am also looking into a preschool program for Austin so this thread is just what I needed!

student to teacher ratio was up there for me, and how they deal with discipline, teachers' availability to speak with parents - those were some i asked...

honestly, i don't think i asked any questions!

i guess i just went with a gut feeling approach:)
